Caddo Lake: What is the Lang family tree?
Caddo Lake Family Tree: What is the ultimate fate of the Lang family?
The Lang family is etched in time in a warped manner forever. A young girl named Anna arrives in 1952. Separated from her parents, who are in the year 2022, she builds her new life in the past. She marries a man named Ben and has a son, Paris. One fateful day in 1999, she dies in a car accident, but Paris survives.
In 2003, Paris’ girlfriend, Cee, conceives his baby. Before he can know, Paris gets lost in time at the lake. Paris finds a young girl lost in the woods, and in his attempt to save her, he accidentally strands that little girl in 1952. This girl is Anna, his future mother. Obviously, he has no clue. He heads back to the lake and ends up in 2022.
In 2003, Cee gives birth to Ellie and, two years later, runs into a young woman who Cee believes is the girl Paris has eloped with. She’s heartbroken and abandons her search for Paris. Years later, Cee marries Daniel and has a child with him. This child is Anna, yes, the same Anna who is (will become) Cee’s boyfriend’s mother. Ellie gets estranged from her mother even though her step-family are actually good people.
In 2022, Anna gets lost in time and is transported to 1952. Ellie travels back in time to 2005 and meets her young mother accidentally, giving Cee the impression that she’s the one Paris has eloped with. Meanwhile, Paris, who’s stuck in 2022, drowns and dies as he desperately tries to make it to the lake to get back to Cee.
This convoluted circle of life is the fate of the Lang family. Go here to understand the ending of Caddo Lake.
Caddo Lake Family Bizarre Relationships
Ellie’s half-sister, Anna, is her own grandmother.
This makes Daniel Ellie’s great-grandfather. And this is why Ellie tells Daniel in the end that they were always family. She means related by blood. Poor Daniel may never know what really transpired. Telling him will make Ellie and Cee look like mentally unstable people.
Cee is her boyfriend’s mother’s mother. This makes Cee Paris’ grandmother and girlfriend. Talk about unexpected incest, eh?
Anna is Cee’s daughter and mother-in-law, well, almost. Poor Anna dies before Paris and Cee could get married.
How is all this craziness possible?
All of these family ties are possible because of the Predestination Paradox, a situation where the future predestines the past. The events of the future result in the past, and the past causes the future in what we call the Causal Loop. The only reason such a thing can exist is because of time travel. Paradoxes like these are why scientists argue against being able to travel to the past, meaning time travel can never exist in real life.
